Every day more organizations are embracing CBD (component-based development) for its promise of code reusability and, as a result, reduced development effort and faster time-to-market. In addition, Java is quickly being adopted as a standard for Web development. Application server vendors are now selling components for e-commerce and vertical applications. For example, BEA Systems identified this trend early on, and understood how it could become a competitive advantage. To that end, BEA recently acquired The Theory Center, a software development firm focused on creating EJB (Enterprise JavaBeans) component solutions for e-commerce. Now BEA offers The Theory Center's e-commerce objects bundled with their own application server and is marketing the solution as its Commerce Server. According to the GartnerGroup, by 2003 at least 80% of all new applications will be bui... (more)

Practical APM & DevOps By @SolarWinds | @DevOpsSummit [#DevOps]

A Practical Approach to Application Performance & DevOps Considered by many as the next step beyond Agile, DevOps has proven to be effective at accelerating development cycles, improving performance, reducing bugs and overall improving the innovation and velocity of development teams. There are a couple ways to look at DevOps: first, DevOps is a development methodology based on continuous integration and continuous delivery supported by set of configuration management tools such as Chef, Puppet, Salt and Ansible. We can also think of DevOps as a simpler set of principles that gui... (more)

Monitoring By @SolarWinds | @CloudExpo #APM #ML #Monitoring #DevOps

Monitoring Those Hard to Reach Places: Linux, Java, Oracle and MySQL Today's IT environments are increasingly heterogeneous, with Linux, Java, Oracle and MySQL considered nearly as common as traditional Windows environments. In many cases, these platforms have been integrated into an organization's Windows-based IT department by way of an acquisition of a company that leverages one of those platforms. In other cases, the applications may have been part of the IT department for years, but managed by a separate department or singular administrator. Still, whether it's a perception ... (more)

DevOps and Actionable DataPoints | @DevOpsSummit #DevOps #BigData #Microservices

Information overload has infiltrated our lives. From the amount of news available and at our fingertips 24/7, to the endless choices we have when making a simple purchase, to the quantity of emails we receive on a given day, it's increasingly difficult to sift out the details that really matter. When you envision your cloud monitoring system, the same thinking applies. We receive a lot of useless data that gets fed into the system, and the reality is no one in IT or DevOps has the time to manually determine the actionable data points (that's a whole job itself), meaning monitoring...
